McLennan comes up short at San Jac

The No. 7 McLennan Highlanders came up a couple runs short this afternoon, falling to San Jacinto 8-6 in the final game of the regular season.
 
San Jacinto began the scoring with five runs in the bottom of the first. Chase Wilkerson walked, moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by Zach Limas and scored on a single by Camryn Williams. Ryan Hernandez then doubled to score Williams. A fielder's choice by Luke Little put Hernandez out at third. Jose Aquino singled, and Braden Winget followed with a three-run homer.
 
The Gators added a run in the third as Williams doubled and came around to score as Little reached on an error.
 
Brett Squires put McLennan on the board with a two-run homer in the bottom of the sixth after Jalen Battles reached on an error.
 
Another San Jacinto run score in the bottom of the sixth as Aquino singled, advanced around to third on ground outs by Winget and Charles Bartlett, and scored on a single by Bryan Seamster.
 
The Highlanders added three runs in the top of the seventh to trim the San Jacinto lead to two, 7-5. Brooks Embry led off with a single. Vince Ippoliti and Battles were both hit by the pitch, loading the bases. Cole Moore followed with a single to score Embry and Ippoliti. Battles then scored on a wild pitch.
 
McLennan added another run in the eighth. Embry walked, Jaylen Williams singled and Ippoliti walked to load the bases. Embry then scored on a sacrifice fly by Jordan Yeatts.
 
The Gators rounded out the scoring with a run in the eighth as Aquino singled, moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by Winget, advanced to third on a wild pitch and scored on a single by Chase Ferem.
 
McLennan will compete in the Region V Tournament May 10-14 in San Angelo.
