Highlanders defeat Ranger

The McLennan Highlanders moved to 2-0 in conference play with a 73-51 win over defending conference champion Ranger on Wednesday night.

Both teams started off sluggish, struggling with turnovers early on. Ranger led 8-7 midway through the first half. McLennan broke the game open with a 12-0 run, taking the 19-8 lead with five minutes remaining in the half. The Highlanders led 29-16 at halftime.

The Rangers cut the lead to eight with just under 15 minutes to play in the game. But the Highlanders pulled away again, leading by as many as 25 down the stretch.

Sophomore Wayne Langston led McLennan with 11 points. D.J. Weathers and Julius Foster added 10 points each.

The Highlanders return to action on Wednesday, traveling to Hill for a 7:30 p.m. contest.
