Highlanders outlast Hill

The fifth-ranked McLennan Highlanders defeated the Hill Rebels 81-75 on Wednesday night, moving to 3-0 in conference play.

The game was tight throughout the first half. Hill led 18-12 with 11:08 remaining in the half. McLennan used a 9-0 run in the next three minutes to take the 30-28 lead. The Rebels regained the lead on the next possession and extended it to nine at halftime, 44-35.

The Highlanders opened the second half on a 17-2 run to take the 52-46 lead with 13:48 remaining in the game. McLennan increased its advantage to 13, 72-59, with 4:11 to go. Hill pulled within five in the final minute but was unable to get any closer.

Wayne Langston led the Highlanders with 22 points and 18 rebounds. Jalen Jones scored 20 and Shawn Prudhomme added 16.

McLennan returns to action on Saturday, hosting Southwestern Christian. The women's game begins at 2 p.m., followed by the men's game at 4 p.m.
