Highlanders top Southwestern Christian

The McLennan Highlanders defeated the Southwestern Christian Rams 79-67 on Saturday afternoon at The Highlands, keeping their perfect conference record intact.

Both teams started slow offensively. McLennan built a nine-point lead, 20-11, midway through the first half. Southwestern fought back, cutting the lead to one, 26-25, with 4:53 on the clock. The Highlanders extended the lead back to nine with just over two minutes to go. The Rams cut it to three at the half, 36-33.

McLennan extended the lead to nine early in the second half, but Southwestern Christian rallied again, cutting the lead to one midway through the period. The Highlanders pulled away once again and the Rams were unable to recover.

Freshman Jalen Jones led the Highlanders with 22 points and sophomore Tevin Hanner added 12. Sophomores John Savoy and Julius Foster scored 10 points each.

McLennan returns to action on Wednesday, traveling to Weatherford. The women's game begins at 5:30 p.m., followed by the men's game at 7:30 p.m.
