Highlanders top Weatherford

In dramatic fashion, the McLennan Highlanders defeated the Weatherford Coyotes 74-66 on Wednesday night in Weatherford.

Both teams struggled to find an offensive rhythm early on. Weatherford took the first double-digit lead, 23-13, with 6:32 to play in the half and held the 30-20 advantage at the break.

Weatherford opened the second half on a 14-6 run to build an 18-point lead, the largest of the game with 15:08 to play. McLennan fought back, taking the 58-57 lead, on a D.J. Weathers 3-pointer with 4:31 remaining in the game. This marked the first lead for McLennan since the opening minute of the game. The Highlanders were able to pull away from the free-throw line down the stretch to seal the win.

Weathers led McLennan with 16 points and Jalen Jones added 14. Ojai Black and Shawn Prudhomme scored 10 points each.

 

McLennan returns to action on Saturday, traveling to Collin. The women's game begins at 2 p.m., followed by the men's game at 4 p.m.
