Third-ranked Highlanders fall to Rams

In a hard fought battle, the third-ranked McLennan Highlanders fell to the Southwestern Christian Rams 103-90 Wednesday in Terrell.

The teams kept it close for the first 15 minutes of play. McLennan built an eight-point lead 26-38 with 3:26 to play in the first half. Southwestern Christian cut the lead to four at halftime, 51-47.

The Highlanders came out hot in the second half, taking the nine-point lead, 65-56, with just more than 13 minutes remaining in the game. The Rams weren't done and rallied to take a one-point lead midway through the half. Southwestern Christian extended the lead to eight with 6:53 to play, 84-76. McLennan cut the lead to two, 86-84, with just over four minutes to go, but the Rams pulled away down the stretch to secure the win.

Three-pointers proved to be the key to the game. The Highlanders struggled to defend the Rams from beyond the arc, allowing them to make 12 long-range shots.

Shawn Prudhomme led the Highlanders with 19 points and Tevin Hanner added 15. Jalen Jones and Wayne Langston scored 11 points each.

McLennan returns to action on Saturday, hosting Weatherford. The women's game tips off at 2 p.m., followed by the men's game at 4 p.m.
