Highlanders squeak by Timberwolves

The McLennan Highlanders defeated the Lone Star College Timberwolves 77-63 this afternoon in Tomball. It was a drastically different game than the Nov. 1 season-opening contest between the two squads when the Highlanders trampled the Timberwolves 128-59 in Waco.

McLennan opened the game on a 4-0 run and built a five-point lead at 8-3 with 16:56 to play in the first half. LSC-Tomball rallied to tie the game at 10 and led 19-18 midway through the half. The Highlanders used an 8-0 run over the next three minutes to take the 26-19 lead and extended it to 10 with just over two minutes remaining on the clock, 35-25. McLennan led by nine with 10 seconds on the clock, but a buzzer-beater by Anthony cut the Highlanders' lead to seven at the break, 40-33.

The Timberwolves pulled within three, 48-45, with 15 minutes remaining in the game. The Highlanders used an 11-3 run over a two minute span to begin pulling away. McLennan led by as many as 16 down the stretch to take the win.
It was a balanced attack for McLennan offensively as 11 of 13 Highlanders scored, including four in double figures. Mike Adewunmi led the way with 14 points. Xavier Armstead and Jordan Skipper-Brown scored 13 points each, and Javen Hedgeman added 10.

McLennan returns to action Monday, traveling to Mesquite to face the Eastfield Harvesters at 6 p.m.
