Highlanders stomp Fort Hood to open season

The McLennan Highlanders demolished the Fort Hood Phantom Warriors 125-62 to open the 2019-20 season.

Fort Hood opened the game with back-to-back 3-pointers by Shaun Hollenkamp to take the early 6-0 lead. A put back by Claven Wilson followed by an alley-oop from Chris Pryor to Cameron Copeland, and a layup by Akili Vining for the Highlanders would tie the game at six. The teams traded buckets and the Phantom Warriors led 11-9 with 15:59 to go in the first half. McLennan used a 19-2 run over the next six minutes to break the game open. The Highlanders continued to pull away and led 59-27 at the half.

The second half was much the same as the Highlander cruised to the easy victory.

Copeland led the Highlanders with 30 points including six 3-pointers. Lorenzo Anderson and Rodrique Massenat scored 15 points each. Pryor and Vining rounded out the Highlanders in double figures with 12 and 11, respectively.
