McLennan Highlander golfer Mathias Lorentzen has been named a semifinalist for the 2019 NJCAA Jack Nicklaus National Player of the Year Award presented by Barbasol.
Lorentzen, a sophomore from Hvidovre, Denmark, has competed in eight tournaments for the Highlanders this year, claiming two championships along with four top-five finishes. Lorentzen and the Highlanders will compete in the NCJAA Division I Men's Golf National Championship May 14-17 at the Duran Golf Club in Melbourne, Florida.
Finalists for the award will be named May 13 and award recipients will be announced at a ceremony May 30 during the final round of the Memorial Tournament presented by Nationwide at Muirfield Village Golf Club. Awards will be presented by Jack Nicklaus.
Award recipients from the five divisions will also compete in the Barbasol Shootout for an exemption into the PGA Tour's Barbasol Championship, held July 18-21, at the Champions at Keene Trace in Lexington, Ky. The Barbasol Shootout will be held June 1 at The Ohio State University Golf Club's Scarlet Course in Columbus, Ohio, the same club where Jack Nicklaus played collegiate golf for the Buckeyes.
