Highlassies, Lady Leopards split

The McLennan Highlassies and Temple Lady Leopards split Friday's conference doubleheader in Temple.

McLennan took game one 6-5 with Ashley Mills getting the win in the circle.

Temple began the scoring with one run in the bottom of the first as Olivia Van Hook was safe at first on an error, moved to second on the walk of Alex Wilson and scored on a single by Sara Ralston.

The Highlassies got on the board with Aubri Hockenbury's home run in the fourth. 

McLennan added one run in the top of the fifth. Cheyenne Bell drew a walk and was replaced at first by pinch runner Ashley Silva. Silva then moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by Summer Dolezel, moved to third on a passed ball and scored on a single by Amber Mills.

The Highlassies extended the lead with two runs in sixth. Danielle Gregory doubled and scored on a double by Kaymee Gooden. Estrella Guardiola then singled to score Gooden.

The Lady Leopards scored two in the bottom of the sixth. Stephanie Marmolejo walked and scored on a double by Paige Williams. Williams then scored on a double by Addie Vayas.

McLennan added two runs in the top of the seventh. Hockenbury singled, Andrea Gonzales walked and Gooden was safe at first on an error to load the bases. Hockenbury came in to score on a wild pitch. Dolezel then singled to score Gonzales.

Temple scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh. Van Hook singled and Ralston followed with a fielder's choice. Melina Sanchez was safe on an error to load the bases. Van Hook scored on a single by Abigail Schade. Williams then drew a walk, bringing Ralston in to score.

The Lady Leopards shut out the Highlassies 5-0 in the nightcap with Mercedes Covey taking the loss.

The first run came in the bottom of the first as Wilson singled and scored on a double by Ralston.

Temple added a run in the second as Van Hook doubled, advanced to third on a sacrifice by Williams and scored on a groundout by Lana Hickson.

The Lady Leopards extended the lead to three with a run in the third as Melissa Herrera singled moved to second on a groundout by Wilson, stole third and scored on a groundout by Ralston.

The final two runs came in the bottom of the fifth. Schade singled and moved to second on a groundout by Herrera. Wilson followed with a single. Both Schade and Wilson scored on a double by Ralston.

McLennan returns to action on Wednesday, traveling to Gainesville for a 1 p.m. doubleheader with North Central.
