Highlassies sweep Grayson

The McLennan Highlassies swept Monday's conference doubleheader with the Grayson Lady Vikings at Bosque River Ballpark.

Ashley Mills picked up the 6-0 shutout win in game one.

The Highlassies scored two runs in the bottom of the second. Andrea Gonzales led off with a double and Summer Dolezel drew a walk. Amber Mills then singled to score Gonzales. Marisa Flores followed with a single, scoring Dolezel.

McLennan added three runs in the third. Kaymee Gooden walked and stole her way around to third. Cheyenne Bell singled to score Gooden. Dolezel also singled. Estrella Guardiola followed with a double to score Bell and Dolezel.

The final run came in the fifth as Dolezel was hit by the pitch, moved to second on a single by Guardiola, advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt by Amber Mills and scored on a groundout by Flores.

The Highlassies defeated the Lady Vikings 6-4 in the nightcap with Mercedes Covey getting the win and Ashley Mills picking up the save.

Grayson began the scoring with three runs in the top of the third as Jordan Gunderson and Christina Guckes both singled and scored on a double by Moriah Mitcheson.

McLennan took the lead with five runs in the bottom of the third. Dolezel singled and Guardiola was safe on a bunt. Both runners advanced on a sacrifice bunt by Amber Mills. Aubri Hockenbury followed with a single to score Dolezel and Guardiola. Danielle Gregory was safe at first on an error. Gooden followed with a triple, scoring Hockenbury and Gregory. Gonzales then singled to score Gooden.

The Highlassies added one run in the bottom of the sixth as Gonzales doubled, moved to third on a groundout by Bell and scored on a double by Dolezel.

Grayson rounded out the scoring with a run in the top of the seventh as Guckes walked, advanced around to third on an overthrow and scored on a groundout by Chelsea Whitlock.

The Highlassies return to action on Wednesday, hosting Weatherford for a 1 p.m. doubleheader. McLennan will recognize seven sophomores prior to the start of the first game.
