Highlassies split doubleheader at Temple

The McLennan Highlassies and Temple Lady Leopards split their conference doubleheader in Temple.

Temple took game one 5-0 with Victoria Vasquez taking the loss in the circle for McLennan.

The Lady Leopards scored one run in the bottom of the third inning as Kylie Mica walked, moved to second on a single by Kennedy Jimenez, advanced to third on a single by Kaitlyn Jones and scored on a passed ball.

Two more Temple runs scored in the fourth. Mikaela Sako and Haley Moore were both safe on McLennan errors and advanced on a double steal. Mica drew a walk to load the bases. Jimenez was then hit by the pitch bringing Sako in to score, and Moore scored on the walk of Jones.

The final two Lady Leopard runs crossed the plate in the fifth. Lindsey Taylor reached first safely on another McLennan error, moved to second on a ground out by Skye Koehl and scored on a double by Madilyn Weatherly. McKinzie Hamilton replaced Weatherly to run at second, moved to third on a ground out by Sako and scored on a passed ball.

McLennan bounced back to defeat Temple 3-1 in game two with Emily Klanika picking up the win in the circle.

Temple began the scoring with a run in the bottom of the first as Jones doubled and scored on a double by Kelsie Murie.

The Highlassies tied the game with a run in the top of the third as Zayra Olguin singled, moved to second on a single by Cassie Pavlas and scored as Olivia Lantigua reached first safely on an error.

McLennan sealed the win with two runs in the fifth. Pavlas and Lantigua both singled and advanced on a sacrifice bunt by Kaitlin Richards. Pavlas came in to score on a passed ball, and Lantigua scored on a single by Emeri Eubanks.

The Highlassies return to action Wednesday hosting North Central for a 1 p.m. doubleheader.
