Highlassies sweep Ranger for second time this season

The No. 20 McLennan Highlassies picked up another conference doubleheader sweep on the road Wednesday afternoon in Ranger.

McLennan got the dominating 10-1 run-rule victory over the Lady Rangers in game one with Victoria Vasquez picking up the win in the circle.

The Highlassies began the scoring with two runs in the top of the first. Kaitlin Richards reached first and advanced to second on a Ranger error, and Emeri Eubanks doubled. Brittany Montoya followed with a single to score Richards and Eubanks.

Three more McLennan runs crossed the plate in the third. Olivia Lantigua was safe at first on another Ranger error, and Richards singled. Eubanks followed with a single to score Lantigua. Montoya also singled, loading the bases. Genisa Marrero-Carter followed with a single, scoring Richards. Zayra Olguin then hit into a double play, allowing Eubanks to score.

The Highlassies increased their lead with four runs in the top of the fourth. Lantigua doubled and Richards singled. Daniella Hill replaced Lantigua to run at second. Eubanks followed with a single, loading the bases. Montoya was safe on an error, allowing Hill and Richards to score. Marrero-Carter then singled to reload the bases. Eubanks and Montoya both came in to score on an error.

Ranger's only run came in the bottom of the fourth as Whitnee Alexander doubled and scored on a McLennan error.

McLennan rounded out the scoring with a run in the top of the fifth as Charley Avery singled, stole second and scored on a single by Hill.

Game two was much closer, with the Highlassies coming away with the 4-3 victory. Emily Klanika picked up the win in the circle.

The Highlassies got on the board with Cassie Pavlas' solo home run in the first inning.

Ranger took the lead with two runs in the bottom of the second inning as Virginia Beddo singled, moved to second on an error, advanced to third on a ground out by Samantha Broadnax and scored on a triple by Riley Saegert.

McLennan tied the game with a run in the third as Olguin singled and scored on a double by Richards.

The Lady Rangers took the lead once again with Elizabeth Battle's home run in the bottom of the third.

The Highlassies sealed the win with two runs in the top of the fifth. Eubanks singled and Montoya drew a walk. Marrero-Carter followed with a fielder's choice to load the bases. Eubanks and Montoya then scored on a single by Hill.
