McLennan & Temple split on the softball diamond

The McLennan Softball squad opened conference play with a doubleheader split with the Temple Lady Leopards this afternoon in Temple.
 
McLennan took game one 7-3 with Gracy Crafts getting the win in the circle.
 
McLennan got on the board with a run in the top of the first asBailey Krolczyk doubled and scored on a single by Caitlyn Wong.
 
Ka'Lyn Watson's home run to left field in the top of the second put McLennan up 2-0.
 
Temple's first run came in the bottom of the second as Daeghan Drgac doubled, moved to third on a ground out by Sam Gaona and scored on a fly out by Erin Faske.
 
Two more McLennan runs scored in the top of the third. Krolczyk walked and scored on a double by Wong. Sidney Campion walked, and both runners advanced on a fly out by Rosemary Rivera. Wong then scored on a Temple error.
 
Kadyn Trochim's solo home run to center field in the fourth extended the McLennan lead to 5-1.
 
Wong and Julia Herzinger added solo home runs in the seventh to make the McLennan lead 7-1.
 
Temple rounded out the scoring with two runs in the bottom of the seventh. A.J. Jasso led off with a solo home run, and Biviana Figueroa doubled. Alexis Hamilton and Kristen Boyd both walked, loading the bases. Figueroa then scored on fly out by Madi Garza.
 
Game two was an offensive battle with Temple getting the 17-16 win in the bottom of the seventh.
 
McLennan scored four runs in the top of the first to take the early lead. Lindsey Evans led off with a single and Krolczyk drew a walk, both advancing on a ground out by Wong. Campion followed with a single to score Evans and Krolczyk. Herzinger followed with a two-run homer.
 
Two more McLennan runs scored in the second as Melayna Lopez doubled and scored on a Krolczyk home run.
 
Temple scored a run in the bottom of the second. Boyd doubled and Shaylann Grace was safe on fielder's choice. Brianna Longoria followed with a single to score Boyd.
 
The Leopards scored five runs in the bottom of the third to tie the game at six. Drgac singled and scored on a double by Garza. Boyd walked and Grace singled. Hamilton followed with a double to score Boyd and Grace. Yaya Jones then singled to score pinch runner Erin Faske.
 
McLennan responded with six runs in the top of the fourth. Evans singled and Krolczyk followed with a two-run homer. Wong doubled, and Campion and Rivera both walked to load the bases. Herzinger singled to score Wong and Campion, and Watson singled to score Rivera and Herzinger.
 
McLennan added two runs in the fifth. Lopez doubled and was replaced by pinch runner Genesis Rodriguez. Evans followed with a double, scoring Rodriguez. Krolczyk walked and Evans scored on a wild pitch.
 
Temple cut the McLennan lead to two with six runs in the bottom of the fifth. Gonzales singled, Boyd walked and Grace was hit by the pitch to load the bases. Faske drew a walk, scoring Gonzales. Jones followed with a grand slam. Jasso walked and stole second. Figueroa then singled to score Jasso.
 
The Leopards took the lead with three runs in the bottom of the sixth. Grace reached on an error and Jones singled. Jasso followed with a three-run homer.
 
McLennan took the lead with a Krolczyk two-run homer in the top of the seventh following the Evans double.
 
Temple stole the win in the seventh as Gaona singled and Boyd followed with the walk-off home run.
 
The two squad will complete the four-game series with a noon doubleheader at Bosque River Ballpark.
