The McLennan Highlanders split Saturday's conference doubleheader with the Weatherford Coyotes at Bosque River Ballpark to secure a spot in the Region V Tournament.
McLennan took game one 3-1 with Greg Maisto getting the win on the mound and Patrick Herbelin picking up the save. Miles Manning was 2-3 at the plate. Mason George's home run was the only extra-base hit for the Highlanders. George, Zac Valenzuela and Andrew Rhodes all recorded an RBI.
Weatherford bounced back to defeat the Highlanders 7-6 in the nightcap with Andrew Sanchez taking the loss. Tanner Fritsch was 3-4 in the game. Valenzuela hit a triple and picked up an RBI. Braxton Hollenshead hit a double and Trevor Podsednik recorded two RBIs.
McLennan, the third seed from the north, will open the Region V Tournament at 10 a.m. on Friday against Frank Phillips.
