Highlanders fall to Midland, move to elimination bracket

The McLennan Highlanders fell to the Midland Chaparrals 6-3 on day two of the Region V Tournament in Midland. Wyatt Cheney took the loss on the mound for the Highlanders.
 
Midland began the scoring with two runs in the top of the first inning as Garrett Williams singled and scored on a Tyler Wulfert home run.
 
McLennan tied the game with two runs in the bottom of the third as Elijah Rodriguez singled and scored Marquis Jackson's home run.
 
The Chaparrals scored two in the fourth to take the lead. Chris Garcia singled and Hudson Parker was hit by the pitch. Both runners scored on a single by Michael Weidner.
 
Midland added two more runs in the sixth. Weidner and Ryan Blackwell both walked and scored on a double by Williams.
 
The Highlanders final run came in the bottom of the seventh. Rodriguez and Hunter Grimes both singled. Ty Johnson then singled to score Rodriguez.
 
McLennan will face New Mexico in an elimination game Sunday at 10 a.m.
