Highlanders take two from Westerners
The fifth-wanked McLennan Highlanders picked up a pair of victories over the Western Texas Westerners this afternoon.
Carson Bailey picked up the 3-0 shutout on the mound in the opener.
Brody Chyr's home run in the bottom of the third put the Highlanders on the board.
The final two McLennan runs scored in the bottom of the fifth. Peyton Firgens walked and stole second. Brennon Seigler walked, and Firgens scored on a fielder's choice by Chyr that put Seigler out at second. Chyr advanced on the throw and scored on a single by Cooper McEnroe.
In the nightcap, the Highlanders defeated the Westerners 10-2 in seven innings with Logan Harris getting the win.
McLennan put two on the board in the first. Firgens walked and Seigler reached on an error, both advancing on a ground out by McEnroe. Samuel Jenkins reached on an error, scoring Firgens, and Brock Lulewicz was hit by the pitch. Michael Peavy then walked to score Seigler.
Two more Highlander runs score in the second. Firgens and Seigler both walked. Chyr singled score Firgens, and McEnroe walked to load the bases. Seigler then scored on a fly out by Jenkins.
Western Texas scored two in the third. Easton Stewart singled, advanced to second on an error, and scored on a single by Franco Marquez. Brandt House singled, and both runners stole a base. Marquez then scored on a line drive by Dylan Malone.
Another McLennan run scored in the fourth. Abdiel Hernandez Sostre drew a lead-off walk and Firgens singled. Hernandez Sostre then scored on a fly out by Seigler.
Thee Highlanders put another five runs on the board in the sixth. Hernandez Sostre and Firgens both singled. Seigler doubled to score Hernandez Sostre. Jenkins was hit by the pitch to load the bases. Lulewicz followed with a triple to score all three runners before scoring on a wild pitch.
