Highlanders win two in Mt. Pleasant
The No. 12 McLennan Highlanders are bringing home a pair of non-conference victories home from Mt. Pleasant after defeating the Northeast Texas Eagles this afternoon.
McLennan won the opener 10-4 with Stevie Doty picking up the win on the mound.
The Highlanders scored three in the second. Brock Lulewicz and Brett Haggerty both walked. Michael Peavy followed with the three-run homer.
McLennan added four runs in the third. Tyler Ness singled, Cooper McEnroe walked, and Sam Jenkins singled to load the bases. Lulewicz singled to score Ness and McEnroe. Lulewicz stole second, and Haggerty doubled to score Ness and Lulewicz.
Northeast Texas got on the board with three runs in the bottom of the third. Luke Nohinek and Riley Patterson both singled. Mason Pate also singled, scoring Nohinek, and Patterson scored on an error. Pate then scored on a sac fly by Jonathon Kent.
The Highlanders added two more runs in the fourth. Brennon Seigler walked, stole second and scored on a single by Ness. McEnroe followed with a double, scoring Ness.
Another McLennan run scored in the sixth as Ness walked and scored a triple by Jenkins.
The Eagles rounded out the scoring with a run in the bottom of the sixth. Boston Seahorn drew a lead-off walk, advanced to second on a balk and moved to third on a ground out by Josh Staten. Cam Reiter then grounded out to score Seahorn.
In the nightcap, the Highlanders defeated Northeast Texas 5-3 with Logan Harris getting the win on the mound.
McLennan began the scoring with two runs in the first inning as Peyton Firgens walked and scored on Seigler's home run.
Another Highlander run scored with Ramon Corona's home run to lead off the second.
McLennan added two more runs in the third. Jenkins, Lulewicz and Haggerty all walked to load the bases. Jenkins scored on a sacrifice fly by Brody Chyr, and Lulewicz scored on a sac fly by Corona.
The Eagles' afirst run came in the bottom of the fourth. Seahorn and Nohinek both singled, and Seahorn scored on a sacrifice fly by Reiter.
Another Northeast Texas run came in the bottom of the seventh. Nohinek led off with a single, advanced to second and scored on a single by Jack Ortego.
The Eagles final run came in the bottom of the ninth as Pate single, advanced on a single by Ortego and scored on an error.
