No. 8 Highlanders walk off Apaches
The No. 8 McLennan Highlanders walked off the Tyler Apaches 11-10 in a back-and-forth battle at Bosque River Ballpark. AJ Grizzaffi picked up the win on the mound.
Tyler began the scoring with a run in the top of he first as Landry Stamps doubled and scored on a triple by Ben Coke.
McLennan took the lead with two runs in the bottom of the inning. Peyton Firgens led off with a single and Brennon Seigler tied the game with a two-run homer.
The Apaches tied the game with Anthony Martinez's solo home run to lead off the bottom of the third.
The Highlanders went back on top with two runs in the bottom of the fourth. Sam Jenkins led off with a solo home run. Brett Haggerty was hit by the pitch, and Brandon Dickinson singled. Firgens was also hit by the pitch, loading the bases. Haggerty then scored on a wild pitch.
Tyler tied the game once again with two runs in the fifth. Martinez walked and advanced on a ground out by James Raecek. Stamps followed with a two-run homer.
McLennan scored two in the bottom of the fifth to go back on top. Tyler Ness singled, stole second and scored on a triple by Jenkins. Michael Peavy was hit by the pitch, and Brock Lulewicz doubled to score Jenkins.
Another Highlander run scored in the sixth. Firgens led off with a single then stole second and third before scoring on an Apache throwing error.
Five Apache runs scored in the top of the seventh to put Tyler back on top. Landon Miller, Martinez and Raecek all walked. Davis Perkins was hit by the pitch, scoring Miller. A fielder's choice by Stamps scored Martinez and put Perkins out at second, and Raecek scored on an error. Coke singled. Both runners stole a base, and Stamps scored on a passed ball. Noah Paddie then doubled to score Coke.
McLennan added a run with pinch hitter Brody Chyr's home run in the seventh inning.
Tyler tacked on another run in the eighth. Martinez walked and Racek singled. Perkins then singled to score Martinez.
The Highlanders tied the game with two in the bottom of the eighth. Seigler doubled and Ness singled. Cooper McEnroe then doubled to score Seigler, and Ness scored on a fly out by Jenkins.
McLennan scored the winning run in the bottom of the ninth. Chyr led off with a double and Dickinson followed with the walk-off double, scoring Chyr.
