No. 8 McLennan wallops No. 17 Weatherford
The No. 8 McLennan Baseball squad walloped the No. 17 Weatherford Coyotes in this afternoon's conference doubleheader at Bosque River Ballpark.
The opener was an 11-1 run-rule victory for the Highlanders with Stevie Doty going all six innings on the mound for the win.
Weatherford's only run came in the top of the third. Caden Mitchel walked, advanced to second on an error and moved to third on a ground out by Joseph Sandusky. Cayden Byrd then grounded out to score Byrd.
McLennan took the lead with two runs in the bottom of the third as Michael Peavy walked and scored on Brennon Seigler's home run.
The Highlanders added three runs in the fourth. Brandon Dickinson hit a solo home run. Brock Lulewicz and Peavy both singled, and Peyton Firgens walked to load the bases. Seigler then singled to score Lulewicz and Peavy.
Five more McLennan runs were scored in the fifth. Cooper McEnroe led off with a solo home run. Sam Jenkins walked and Brody Chyr doubled. Dickinson followed with a double to score both runners. Peavy was hit by the pitch and Firgens walked, loading the bases. Dickinson scored on a passed ball, and Peavy scored on a wild pitch.
The Highlanders secure the run rule in the bottom half of the sixth. McEnroe and Jenkins both singled, and Dickinson walked to load the bases. Lulewicz followed with the walk-off single, scoring McEnroe.
In the second game, the Highlanders defeated the Coyotes 9-5 with Logan Harris getting the win on the mound.
McLennan began the scoring with three runs in the second. McEnroe drew a lead-off walk and Jenkins doubled. Chyr followed with a triple to score both runners, and Lulewicz singled to score Chyr.
The Highlanders added two runs in the third. Seigler and Tyler Ness both singled. Both runners stole a base and scored on a single by McEnroe.
Weatherford got on the board with a solo home run by Jake Overstreet in the fourth.
Dickinson added a solo home run for the Highlanders in the bottom of the fifth.
Two more McLennan runs scored in the sixth as Ramon Corona and Seigler both homered.
The Coyotes scored two in the seventh. Walt Jones singled and Caden Mitchell walked. Sandusky then singled to score Jones, and Mitchell scored on a wild pitch.
Corona hit another solo home run for the Highlanders in the bottom of the seventh.
Weatherford rounded out the scoring with two runs in the eighth. Kaden Robardey was hit by the pitch to lead off the inning, and Overstreet followed with the two-run home run.
