No. 8 Highlanders get series sweep of No. 17 Weatherford
The No. 8 McLennan Highlanders capped off the four-game series sweep of the No.17 Weatherford Coyotes with a pair of road wins today in Weatherford.
McLennan came from behind to take the opener 9-6 with Griffin Lewis picking up the win on the mound.
The Highlanders began scoring with three runs in the second. Brandon Dickinson singled but was out on a fielder's choice by Brock Lulewicz. Michael Peavy singled, and Peyton Firgens singled score Lulewicz. Brennon Seigler followed with a double to score Peavy and Firgens.
The Coyotes tied the game with three runs in the bottom of the second. Walt Jones singled, Caden Mitchell walked and Kyzer Harrington walked to load the bases. Spencer Butt grounded into a double play, scoring Jones. Kaden Robardey followed with a double to score Mitchell, and Joseph Sandusky singled to score Robardey.
Weatherford added three runs in the third. Jones and stole second. Mitchell singled, and Harrington grounded out to score Jones. Butt then doubled to score Mitchell, and Robardey singled to score Butt.
McLennan began to come back with two runs in the fifth. Tyler Ness singled and Cooper McEnroe doubled. Ness scored on a ground out by Sam Jenkins, and McEnroe scored on a ground out by Brody Chyr.
The Highlander took the lead with four runs in the sixth. Lulewicz and Corona both walked and advanced on an error. Firgens then singled to score both runners. Ness doubled to score Firgens, and McEnroe singled to score Ness.
The series finale was a high-scoring affair with McLennan getting the 15-11 victory. AJ Grizzaffi picked up the win on the mound.
The Highlanders scored one in the top of the first as Seigler doubled and scored on a double by McEnroe.
The Coyotes took the lead with five runs in the second. Jackson Irons doubled, and Jones and Levi Martinez both walked to load the bases. Irons scored on a sac fly by Blake Martinez, and Harrington doubled to score Jones and Levi Martinez. Butt singled, and Jake Overstreet doubled to score Harrington and Butt.
Another Weatherford run scored in the bottom half of the third. Irons walked and Jones singled. Irons then advanced on a fly out by Levi Martinez and scored on a sac fly by Blake Martinez.
The Coyotes scored one in the fourth. Butt walked and was replaced by pinch runner Sandusky. Ty Waid then singled to score Sandusky.
McLennan added two runs in the sixth as Jenkins was hit by the pitch, and Dickinson hit a two-run homer.
The Highlanders took the lead with five runs in the top of the seventh inning. Firgens singled and Seigler was hit by the pitch. A fielder's choice by Ness put Seigler out at second. McEnroe walked, and Jenkins singled to score Firgens and Ness. Chyr followed with a three-run homer.
McLennan tacked on seven insurance runs in the top of the ninth. McEnroe drew a lead-off walk and Jenkins singled. Chyr followed with a single to score McEnroe. Chyr advanced on a passed ball and Dickinson walked, loading the bases. Jenkins then scored on a sac fly by Lulewicz. Ramon Corona then singled to score Chyr. Firgens followed with a double, scoring Dickinson and Corona, and Seigler singled to score Firgens. Ness walked and Seigler scored on a single by McEnroe.
Weatherford rounded out the scoring with four runs in the bottom of the ninth. Sandusky and Overstreet both walked and scored on a double by Irons. Jones followed with a single to score Irons. Jones then stole second and scored on a single by Levi Martinez.
