McLennan sweeps Vernon
The No. 6 McLennan Baseball squad wrapped up a conference sweep of the Vernon Chaparrals with a pair of road wins.
The Highlanders and Chaparrals battled for 10 innings in the opener with McLennan winning 12-11. Griffin Lewis got the win on the mound.
McLennan scored one in the first. Peyton Firgens and Tyler Ness both singled. Both advanced on a passed ball, and Firgens scored on an error.
The Highlanders added two in the second as Brody Chyr singled and scored on Brady Quinn's home run.
Vernon got on the board with LaRose's home to lead off the bottom of the second.
McLennan responded with three in the third. Cooper McEnroe walked, Sam Jenkins was hit by the pitch, and Brandon Dickinson walked, loading the bases. Chyr walked, scoring McEnroe. Ramon Corona then singled to score Jenkins and Dickinson.
The Chaparrals added two in the bottom of the third. Russell led off with a double and scored on Lusk's home run.
Another Highlander run scored in the fifth. McEnroe doubled and advanced on a wild pitch. Dickinson followed with a sacrifice fly to score McEnroe.
Vernon also scored one in the fifth with an Ortiz home run.
Two McLennan runs scored in the sixth as Corona singled and Brennon Seigler hit a two-run homer.
The Chaparrals began to chip away at the lead with three runs in the sixth. LaRose and Wehba both singled and advanced on a ground out by Rambo. Bonilla then grounded out to score LaRose. Paez reached on an error, scoring Wehba, and Russell singled. Ortiz then singled to score Paez.
Vernon tied the game with two runs in the bottom of the seventh. LaRose walked and Rambo followed with a two-run homer.
The Highlanders went back on top with two runs in the top of the ninth as Ness walked and scored on Jenkins' home run.
The Chaparrals responded with two runs of their own in the bottom of the inning to tie the game again. LaRose singled and Wehba walked. Paez singled to load the bases. Russell then doubled to score LaRose and Wehba.
McLennan secured the win with a run in the top of the 10th inning. Chyr drew a lead-off walk and Brock Lulewicz was hit by the pitch. Chyr advanced on a fly out by Corona and scored on a sac fly by Firgens.
The Highlanders took the series finale 6-2 with Hawk Bowers picking up the win.
Vernon scored one in the first. Leonard singled and Lusk doubled. Leonard then scored on a wild pitch.
The Chaparrals added another run in the second. Paez singled, Shelton reached on an error, and Russell singled to load the bases. Paez then scored on a wild pitch.
McLennan tied the game with two in the third. Nathan Tobin singled, Lulewicz walked and Hayden Crites was hit by the pitch to load the bases. Tobin scored on a ground out by Firgens, and Seigler walked. Lulewicz then scored on a fielder's choice by Ness.
The Highlanders took the lead with three runs in the sixth. McEnroe led off with a single and scored on Jenkins' home run. Chyr then doubled, advanced to third on a ground out by Tobin and scored on a sac fly by Lulewicz.
McLennan's final run came in the top of the seventh as Ness walked and scored on a single by McEnroe.
