The No. 6 McLennan Highlanders used an explosive ninth inning to defeat the Panola Ponies 11-4 today in Carthage. Jacob Evans picked up the win on the mound.
Panola took the early lead with a run in the bottom of the second. Cameron Turner reached on an error, and Ashton Bennight singled. Austin Hardy then singled to score Turner.
McLennan took the lead with two runs in the top of the third as Peyton Firgens walked and scored on Brennon Seigler's home run.
The Highlanders added a run in the fourth. Nathan Tobin led off with a single, stole second and advanced to third on an error. Brock Lulewicz then grounded out, scoring Tobin.
Another McLennan run scored in the top of the seventh. Sam Jenkins was hit by the pitch, and Cooper McEnroe walked. Tobin then singled to score Jenkins.
The Ponies scored two in the bottom of the seventh. Brian Schumacher reached on an error, and Kade Crawford followed with a two-run homer.
Panola tied the game with a run in the eighth inning as Hardy doubled and scored on an error.
McLennan scored seven in the top of the ninth to get the win. Seigler doubled, and Jenkins and McEnroe both walked, loading the bases. Tobin walked, scoring Seigler. Ness then singled to score Jenkins, and Bryce Hampton walked to score McEnroe. Ramon Corona was hit by the pitch, soring Tobin, and Firgens singled to score Hampton and Ness. Seigler followed with a sacrifice fly to score Corona.
