The No. 6 McLennan Highlanders outlasted the North Central Lions for a pair of wins today at Bosque River Ballpark.
McLennan got the 6-5 walk-off win in the opener with Jacob Evans pickup up the win on the mound.
The Highlanders scored two in the third. Tyler Ness led off with a double and Sam Jenkins walked. Brody Chyr followed with a double to score both runners.
Brennon Seigler added a run for McLennan with a solo shot in the bottom of the fourth.
North Central got on the board with Kai Reid's home run to lead off the top of the sixth.
The Highlanders responded with a run in the bottom of the sixth as Peyton Firgens tripled and scored on a wild pitch.
The Lions took the lead with four runs in the top of the seventh. Jackson Ridge singled but was out at second on a fielder's choice by Ty Besker. Drew Roberts singled, and Austin Myers singled to score Besker. Joshua Blanco singled, scoring Roberts, and Reid doubled to score Myers. Blanco then scored when Logan Sanchez reached on an error.
McLennan sealed the win with two runs in the bottom of the seventh. Brok Lulewicz was hit by the pitch and replaced by pinch runner Nathan Tobin. Ramon Corona doubled to score Tobin, and Firgens doubled to score Corona.
In the second game, the Highlanders defeated the Lions 15-10. Griffin Lewis got the win on the mound.
North Central took the early lead with three runs in the first. Besker and Sanchez both singled. Besker was picked off at third, and Evan Wells walked. Colson Wood followed with a single to score Sanchez. Ridge singled, scoring Wells, and Wood scored on an error.
The Highlanders scored one in the bottom of the first as Seigler doubled and score on an error.
McLennan took the lead with six runs in the second. Brady Quinn and Chyr both walked, and Hayden Crites singled to load the bases. Firgens followed with a double to score Quinn and Chyr. Seigler and Ness both walked, scoring Crites, and McEnroe was hit by the pitch to score Firgens. Seigler scored on a sac fly by Jenkins. Both runners advanced on a wild pitch, and Ness scored on a ground out by Tobin.
Three more Highlander runs scored in the third. Chyr led off with a double, Crites walked and Seigler was hit by the pitch. Chyr was thrown out at the plate, and Ness followed with a three-run homer.
McLennan added the run in the sixth inning. Miles Ghossein was hit by the pitch and advanced on an error. Crites was safe on a dropped third strike, and Firgens singled to score Ghossein.
The Lions scored one in the seventh. Ridge and Isaiah Castaneda both singled. Blanco followed with a single, putting Castaneda out at second. Reid then doubled to score Ridge.
Six North Central runs scored in the eighth. Sanchez doubled and Blayne Hoelscher singled. Wood singled to score Sanchez, and Ridge walked. Casteneda reached on an error, scoring Hoelscher. Myers also reached on an error, scoring Wood. Reid followed with a triple to score all three runners.
The Highlanders bounced back with four runs in the bottom of the eighth. Crites, Firgens and Seigler all walked. Crites was out at the plate on a fielder's choice by Ness. McEnroe was then hit by the pitch, scoring Firgens. Seigler scored on a passed ball, and Jenkins walked to reload the bases. Ness scored on another passed ball, and McEnroe score on a sacrifice fly by Tobin.
