Highlanders defeat Odessa in dual match

The McLennan Highlanders defeated the Odessa Wranglers 8 1/2 to 3 1/2 in the Subway Cup, the 10th annual men's golf dual match, at the Diamondback Golf Club in Abilene. This marks the sixth consecutive win for the Highlanders.

The day began with 4-ball doubles matches. McLennan's Bruce Popp and Drew Dewald halved with Odessa's Luke Neeley and Will Clark. Highlanders Nick Krsnak and Tyler Walsh won 3 & 2 over Wranglers Conner Bjugstad and Casey Fowler. McLennan's Ryan Johnson and Cory Donnell won 3 & 1 over Odessa's Ryan Jones and Case Hollenbeck. In the last match, McLennan's Hunter Shattuck and Blake Stock won 2 & 1 over Odessa's Kelby Bridges and Vetle Maroy.

The afternoon consisted of singles pairings. Odessa's Clark won 3 & 2 over McLennan's Dewald, while the Wranglers' Neeley won 2 & 1 over the Highlanders' Popp. McLennan's Walsh won 2 & 1 over Bjugstad and Highlander Krsnak picked up the 4 & 2 win over Fowler. The Highlanders' Johnson won 4 & 3 over Jones and fellow Highlander Donnell  won 2 & 1 over Hollenbeck. Odessa's Bridges picked up the 4 & 2 win over Stock and McLennan's Shattuck won 3 & 2 over Maroy in the final pairing.

Odessa is currently ranked first and McLennan is eighth in the latest Golfstat poll. McLennan will compete in the District 2 Preview on March 9-10.
