Highlanders claim Andrews title

The McLennan Highlanders shot 261-280 –  541 to finish in first place at the Andrews Collegiate Amateur Invitational at the par-71 Andrews County Golf Club in Andrews, Texas.

Midland finished in second with 264-279 – 543, followed by Odessa in third with 272-278 – 551.

Ryan Johnson shot 63-67 – 130 to lead the Highlanders and finish tied for first place.

"It was a really fun week out there; the greens were perfect and the tournament was phenomenal," Johnson said. "I'm glad the team started the year with a W and am looking forward to the rest of the season with the boys!"

Other McLennan results: Drew Dewald, fifth, 64-71 – 135; Blake Stock, tied for 11th, 66-74 – 140; Ryan Brown, tied for 13th, 68-73 – 141; Peter Saxil, tied for 18th, 72-71 – 143; and Cory Donnell, 26th, 74-71 – 145.

Other team scores: Western Texas, fourth, 272-283 – 555 and New Mexico Military, fifth, 310-306 – 616.

The Highlanders will compete in the UMHB Fall Inter-Collegiate Invitational on Oct. 5-6.
