Former Highlander golfer helps lead the way as LPGA golfer Anna Nordqvist wins the Women’s British Open
LPGA golfer Anna Nordqvist and her caddie Paul Cormack were all smiles as Nordqvist endured a drama-filled final 18 holes to win the Women's British Open on Sunday afternoon at the Carnoustie Championship Course in Scotland. This is the third major tournament that Nordqvist has won.
Nordqvist's caddie, Cormack has ties to McLennan Community College as he was a member of the men's golf team from 2004 to 2006. In 2004, Cormack was a NJCAA Division I First Team All-American. Now he is helping one of the up-and-comers on the LPGA Tour.
"I think this is the most special one (of her three majors)", Nordqvist said. "Just because it's taken me a couple years and I've fought so hard and questioned whether I was doing the right things. Also, knowing how my caddie, Paul, he's been working so hard and I really wanted to do it for him, too."
Nordqvist explained that Cormack plays a vital role in pushing her to keep going and to improve.
"There's just something about golf that keeps driving me," Nordqvist said. "I hate losing probably more than I like winning. I think all the controversy and all the downs, and having my caddie and husband there pushing me every day being a rock; I hate to give up."
Born in Aberdeen, Scotland, Cormack had to opportunity to be part of a major tournament win in front of fans from his home country.
"The fans have been great and my caddie (Paul Cormack) is also Scottish too," Nordqvist said. "They both have been my rocks. It's been so nice to have crowds back this year."
