McLennan softball splits on Friday, wins three on Saturday at Galveston tourney

The McLennan Highlassies softball team opened the 2015 season with a 16-4 run-rule win over the University of Houston-Victoria at the Galveston College Invitational on Friday.

Morgan Hill got the win in the circle for the Highlassies. Aubri Hockenbury led McLennan at the plate, going 3-4 with a home run and seven RBIs. Andrea Gonzales and Danielle Gregory both recorded a double. Amber Mills picked up four RBIs and Gregory had two RBIs.

In the afternoon game, the Highlassies fell to Louisiana State University-Eunice 3-0 with Ashley Mills taking the loss. Hill, Amber Mills and Marisa Flores all singled.

McLennan picked up three wins on Saturday on the final day of the Galveston College Invitational.

The Highlassies opened the day with a 4-2 win over the Kilgore Lady Rangers with Morgan Hill picking up the win in the circle. Summer Dolezel and Andrea Gonzales both recorded doubles. Gonzales picked up two RBIs while Estrella Guardiola and Amber Mills had one RBI each.

McLennan defeated Ranger 7-2 in the second game of the day with Kati Turner getting the win. Kaymee Gooden led the Highlassies at the plate, going 3-4 with a home run and three RBIs. Danielle Gregory had a double and an RBI. Amber Mills and Gonzales both had an RBI, and Leeza Valdez doubled.

The Highlassies ended the day with a 9-1 win over Navarro. Ashley Mills got the win in the circle. Danielle Gregory went 2-3 and Marisa Flores was 2-3 with an RBI. Gonzales recorded two RBIs. Aubri Hockenbury, Dolezel, Hill and Guardiola all recorded an RBI each.

McLennan returns to action on Wednesday, traveling to Corsicana for a 1 p.m. doubleheader at Navarro.
