McLennan trounces Trinity Valley for sweep
The McLennan Softball squad improved to 13-1 on the season with today's doubleheader sweep of Trinity Valley in Athens.
McLennan took game one 15-4 in five innings with Kennedy Parker getting the win in the circle.
McLennan scored five runs in the top of the first. Caitlin Bradley-Tse drew a lead-off walk, Maddie Saven was hit by the pitch and Caitlyn Wong walked to load the bases. Erin Plunkett also walked to score Bradley-Tse. Julia Herzinger followed with a grand slam.
Four more runs scored in the top of the second. Bradley-Tse doubled and score on a single by Saven. Wong and Plunkett both single to load the bases. Saven scored on a wild pitch. Jalie Neff then doubled to score Wong and Plunkett.
Trinity Valley got on the board with two runs in the second as Lena Sellam singled and scored on a Yasmine Derbal home run.
McLennan added five runs in the third. Jenny Robison walked and Saven singled. Ka'Lyn Watson singled to score Robison, and Saven and Watson scored on an error. Wong walked and Plunkett followed with a two-run homer.
Two more Trinity Valley scored in the fourth as Victoria Tilley singled and scored on a Rawnie Weststrate home run.
The final McLennan run came in the fourth. Robison reached on an error and Bradley-Tse walked. Both runners advanced on a wild pitch. Robison then scored on a sacrifice fly by Watson.
In game two, McLennan defeated Trinity Valley 10-4 in five innings. Abigail Ramirez picked up the win in the circle and Cheyenne Floyd got the save.
Plunkett's solo home run in the top of the first put McLennan on the board.
Trinity Valley took the lead with two runs in the bottom of the first. Dara Arroyo drew w walk, stole second and scored on a double by Weststrate. Alondra Vasquez singled, and Weststrate scored on a sacrifice fly by Kaitlyn Corn.
Another Trinity Valley runs scored in the second as Hannah Pacheco doubled, advanced to third on a wild pitch and scored on a sacrifice fly by Derbal.
McLennan took the lead with four runs in the third. Robison led off with a solo home run. Bradley-Tse singled and stole second. Plunkett walked but was out at second on a fielder's choice by Watson. Wong was hit by the pitch to load the bases. Riley Rutherford also walked, bringing Bradley-Tse in to score. Hailey Hudson then singled to score Watson and Wong.
Trinity Valley's final run came on Weststrate's solo home run in the third.
Three more McLennan runs scored in the fourth. Bradley-Tse and Saven both singled, and Watson was hit by the pitch, loading the bases. Wong was also hit by the pitch, scoring Bradley-Tse. Rutherford then singled to score Saven and Watson.
The final two McLennan runs scored in the top of the seventh with back-to-back home runs by Rutherford and Hudson.
