McLennan Softball pounds Otero for doubleheader sweep
McLennan Softball picked up a pair of run-rule wins over the Otero Rattlers this afternoon in Odessa.
McLennan took game one 12-4 in six innings with Anissa Arredondo getting the win in the circle.
McLennan began the scoring with a run in the bottom of the first as Erin Plunkett tripled and scored on a sacrifice fly by Caitlyn Wong.
Otero took the lead with three runs in the second inning. Lilyanne Shaw and Chevelle Velasquez both singled. Sophie Smith followed with a three-run homer.
McLennan added a run in the third. Plunkett reached on an error, stole second and advanced to third on a wild pitch. Wong then grounded out to score Plunkett.
Two more McLennan runs scored in the fourth. Hailey Hudson singled and Maddie Saven doubled. Hudson came in to score on an Otero error. Saven then scored on a wild pitch to give McLennan the lead.
McLennan scored five runs in the bottom of the fifth. Wong led off with a solo home run. Hudson walked and was replaced by pinch runner Riley Todd. Saven tripled, scoring Todd, and Kirby singled to score Saven. Kirby then advanced to second on an error ad was replace by pinch runner Rachel Warren. Campion singled and Warren scored on a double steal. Campion then advanced to third on a wild pitch. Ka'Lyn Watson drew a walk, and Campion scored on another double steal.
Shaw added a run for Otero with a solo home run to lead off the top of the sixth.
McLennan score three in the bottom of the inning to seal the run rule. Wong singled but was out at second on a fielder's choice by Jenny Robison. Julia Herzinger doubled and Hudson followed with a fielder's choice, scoring Robison. Hudson advanced to second on an error, and Saven doubled to score Herzinger and Hudson to win the game.
Game two was a 9-1 five-inning run-rule win for McLennan with Kennedy Parker getting the win.
McLennan scored three runs in the top of the first. Caitlyn Bradley-Tse singled, stole second and advanced to third on a ground out by Campion. Wong followed with a two-run homer. Plunkett singled but was out at second on a fielder's choice by Riley Rutherford. Jalie Neff singled and Robison walked, loading the bases. Saven then singled to score Rutherford.
Two more McLennan runs scored in the third. Wong doubled and scored on a double by Plunkett. Plunkett advanced to third on a ground out by Rutherford and scored on a single by Neff.
Abigal Swartz hit a solo home run in the bottom of the third for Otero's only score.
Wong hit another solo home run in the fourth.
Three McLennan runs in the fifth sealed the run rule. Saven led off with a triple and scored on a double by Warren. Bradley-Tse singled and Warren scored on a fielder's choice by Todd that put Bradley-Tse out at second. Todd advanced to second on a wild pitch and scored on a double by Wong.
McLennan opens North Texas Junior College Athletic Conference play Wednesday, hosting Grayson for a 1 p.m. doubleheader.
