McLennan dominates Vernon on the road
McLennan Softball dominated the Vernon Chaparrals in today's conference doubleheader in Vernon.
McLennan defeated Vernon 14-1 in five innings of game one with Hailey Hudson in the circle.
The first McLennan run came in the top of the first. Erin Plunkett singled and stole second, and Caitlyn Wong walked. Plunkett then stole third and scored on a ground out by Riley Rutherford.
McLennan broke the game open with eight runs in the second inning. Julia Herzinger and Jalie Neff both singled and scored on Maddie Saven's home run. Sidney Campion doubled, Ka'Lyn Watson walked and Plunkett reached on an error, loading the bases. Rutherford doubled to score Campion and Watson. Jenny Robison followed with a single to score Plunkett, and Rutherford scored on a sacrifice fly by Herzinger. Neff then singled to score Robison.
Five more McLennan runs scored in the third. Plunkett led off with a double and Wong drew a walk. Plunkett stole third and scored on a single by Rutherford. Herzinger then reached on an error, bringing pinch runner Riley Todd in to score. Neff also reached on an error, scoring Rutherford. Saven followed with a single to score Herzinger, and Campion singled to score Neff.
Vernon's only run came in the bottom of the fifth. Savannah Pemberton singled, stole second and advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt by Jenna Sepeda. Camile Nunez then singled to score Pemberton.
Game two was all McLennan as Cheyenne Floyd picked up the 12-0 one-hit run-rule victory in the circle.
McLennan began the scoring with two runs in the first. Watson and Plunkett both walked. Watson stole second, third and home to begin the scoring. Plunkett stole second and advanced to third on an error before scoring on a sacrifice fly by Wong.
Three McLennan runs scored in the second. Saven walked, Campion singled and Watson reached on an error to load the bases. Saven scored on a ground out by Plunkett, and Wong singled to score Campion and Watson.
McLennan added three runs in the third. Saven and Campion walked. Watson singled, bringing Saven in to score. Plunkett then singled to score Campion and Watson.
Four McLennan runs crossed the plate in the fourth to round out the scoring. Rutherford walked and was replaced by Todd as the pinch runner. Herzinger singled, and Robison singled to score Todd. Saven then singled to sore Robison. Campion walked and Watson singled to score Saven and Campion.
McLennan hosts Vernon Saturday in a noon doubleheader at Bosque River Ballpark to complete the four-game series.
