McLennan & Temple split softball doubleheader
McLennan and Temple split today's conference doubleheader on the softball diamond.
McLennan took game one 11-0 in five innings with Hailey Hudson pitching a no-hitter in the circle.
Four McLennan runs scored in the bottom of the first. Erin Plunkett drew a lead-off walk and Sidney Campion singled. Both runners advanced on an error, and Plunkett scored on a ground out by Caitlyn Wong. Campion scored on another error, and Riley Rutherford drew a walk. Julia Herzinger then doubled to score Rutherford, and Herzinger scored on a single by Ka'Lyn Watson.
McLennan added two runs in the second. Plunkett doubled and Campion was hit by the pitch. Wong singled to score Plunkett, and Riley Todd replaced Wong as the runner at first base. Todd stole second, and Campion stole home.
Five runs in the bottom of the third rounded out the McLennan scoring. Jenny Robison walked and Watson singled. Maddie Saven followed with a double to score Robison, and Watson scored on an error. Jalie Neff walked and Saven stole home. Plunkett singled and Campion walked. Wong then singled to score Plunkett
Temple took game two 6-3 with Cheyenne Floyd taking the loss in the circle for McLennan.
Temple began the scoring with a Darby Hickey solo home run to lead off the top of the second.
The Leopards added a run in the third. Catrin Hoffman, Molly VandenBout and Annabel Segoviano all singled. Hickey then drew a walk, bringing Hoffman in to score.
McLennan scored a run in the bottom of the fourth. Robison walked and Herzinger singled, both advancing on a sacrifice bunt by Rutherford. Herzinger then scored on a sacrifice fly by Saven.
Temple added a run in the fifth as Aahmyri Kennedy reached on an error, advanced to second on a passed ball and score on a single by Hoffman.
Two more Temple runs scored in the sixth. Jalen Perez walked and Kennedy singled. Perez then scored on a ground out by Hoffman.
McLennan's final two runs came in the bottom of the sixth. Hudson singled and was replaced by pinch runner Caitlin Bradley-Tse. Robison followed with a fielder's choice putting Bradley-Tse out at second. Herzinger singled and Rutherford walked, loading the bases. Saven followed with a fielder's choice, putting Robison out at the plate Herzinger and Rutherford then scored on a Temple error.
Temple rounded out the scoring with a run in the top of the seventh. Hickey singled and was replaced by pinch runner Erin Faske. Kate Moalo then doubled to score Faske.
McLennan and Temple will complete the conference series with a noon doubleheader Saturday in Temple.
