McLennan crushes North Central at regional tournament

McLennan crushed North Central 10-2 in five innings this afternoon on the second day of the Region V North Tournament in Weatherford.
North Central struck first, scoring one run in the top of the first as Gabbi Smith singled, stole second and scored on a double by Alexis Tanguma.
McLennan took the lead with three runs in the bottom of the first. Erin Plunkett doubled and Jenny Robison drew a walk. Plunkett stole third and scored on a single by Hailey Hudson. Julia Herzinger followed with a fielder's choice, putting Hudson out at second. Riley Rutherford then doubled to score Robison and Herzinger.
Three more McLennan runs scored in the second. Jalie Neff singled but was out at second on a fielder's choice by Sidney Campion. Ka'Lyn Watson walked, and Campion stole home on a double steal. Watson then advanced to third on an error and scored on a triple by Robison. Hudson followed with a single to score. Robison.
North Central's final run came in the top of the third as Smith singled and scored on a single by Cheyenne Floyd.
Maddie Saven's solo home run in the third made it a 7-2 McLennan lead.
Robison hit a solo shot in the fourth to push the lead to 8-2.
McLennan sealed the win with two runs in the bottom of the fifth. Rutherford was hit by the pitch and replaced by pinch runner Rachel Warren. Warren stole second and scored on a triple by Saven. Sydney Kirby walked and was replaced by Riley Todd as the pinch runner. Todd stole second, and Watson bunted for a single to score Saven and end the game.
McLennan faces Temple in a winner's bracket game Saturday at 12:30 p.m. with the winner advancing to Sunday's championship game and the loser moving to a loser's bracket game Saturday evening.
