McLennan Softball players snag NFCA All-American awards
For the first time in program history, three McLennan Softball Players have been named National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) NJCAA Division I All-Americans in the same season. Infielders Erin Plunkett and Caitlyn Wong were named first-team selections, and pitcher Hailey Hudson was tabbed a second-team selection.
Plunkett, a freshman from Humble, had the second-highest batting average on the squad at .450. She played in all 67 games, recording 100 hits, 26 doubles, three triples, 18 home runs, 85 RBIs, 31 walks, 39 stolen bases and 90 runs scored. She was named NTJCAC First-Team All-Conference, NJCAA All-Region V and NFCA West All-Region First Team.
Wong, a sophomore third baseman from Port Coquitlam, British Columbia, led the nation with a .580 batting average. She recorded 91 hits in 58 games this season with 15 doubles, 27 home runs, 91 RBIs, 34 walks and 63 runs scored. She was named NTJCAC First-Team All-Conference, the NTJCAC Offensive Player of the Year, NJCAA All-Region V, the NJCAA Division I National Championship All-Tournament Team, the NJCAA Most Outstanding Offensive Player and NFCA West All-Region. As a freshman, Wong was named to the NFCA All-American Second Team and an the NFCA All-Region West Second Team.
Hudson, a sophomore from College Station, led the McLennan pitching staff this season with a 1.66 ERA. She made 29 appearances in the circle, amassing a 23-2 records with 27 complete games, and 172 strikeouts in 147.2 innings. She was named NTJCAC First-Team All-Conference, the NTJCAC Pitcher of the Year, NJCAA All-Region V, and NJCAA Division I National Championship All-Tournament and NFCA West All-Region.
Wong and Hudson will both be playing at Grand Canyon University next season.
