McLennan's Allen & Batterton earn softball conference awards

A pair of McLennan Softball players earned the first North Texas Junior College Athletic Conference's Player of the Week awards for the 2024 season. Freshman Trinity Allen was selected as the Position Player of the Week, and sophomore Taryn Batterton was named the Pitcher of the Week.

Allen, a first baseman from Cypress, had a .455 batting average in five games over the weekend along with seven walks, three home runs, nine RBI and 10 runs scored. In the opening game against Chipola, she went 2-3 at the plate with two home runs, 4 RBI, 2 runs scored and 2 walks to help lead the Highlanders to a 9-4 season-opening win.

Batterton, a native of Latta, Oklahoma, picked up two wins in two appearances in the circle. In 12 innings of work, she recorded a 2.33 ERA with seven strikeouts.
