#4 Highlanders sweep #5 Cardinals
The #4 McLennan Highlanders got the doubleheader sweep of the #5 Trinity Valley Cardinals on the road this afternoon in Athens.
McLennan took the opener 5-2 with Landrie Harris getting the win and Natalie Klenda picking up the save.
The Highlanders scored two runs in the top of the first. Tehya Pitts reached on an error, stole second and scored on another error. Trinity Allen walked and stole second. Lilli Piersons then singled to score Allen.
Trinity Valley tied the game with two runs in the bottom of the inning. Mariah DeBose led off with a single. Addison Wittram reached on an error and Kiara Wiedenhaupt was hit by the pitch, loading the bases. Jaeden Elise Burnham also walked, scoring DeBose, and Wittram scored on a fielder's choice by Sydney Murphy.
McLennan took the lead with two runs in the fourth. Ally Thompson singled but was out at second on a fielder's choice by Madison Garcia. Alyssa Moreno walked, and Garcia scored on a sac fly by Aynsli Lawson. Moreno then scored on an error.
The Highlanders rounded out the scoring with Lawson's solo home run in the sixth.
Game two was an 8-2 victory for McLennan with Kynlei Chapman getting the win in the circle.
The Highlanders scored one in the first as Mickayla Tosch walked and stole her way to third. MJ Nicholson ren reached on an error, scoring Tosch.
Another McLennan run scored in the third. Pitts and Tosch both singled but Pitts was out at third on a fielder's choice by Allen. Nicholson walked to load the bases, and Tosch scored on a sac fly by Macie Jansky.
Trinity Valley got on the board with a run in the fourth. Burnham and Molly Gilbert both walked. Jade McQueen then singled to score Burnham.
McLennan added a run with Allen's home run in the fifth.
Two more Highlander runs score in the sixth. Pitts singled and score on a double by Tosch. Tosch then advanced to third on a fly out by Allen and scored on a wild pitch.
Burnham's solo home run in the bottom of the sixth ended the scoring for Trinity Valley.
McLennan scored three in the seventh. Jansky singled and was replaced by pinch runner Delanie Roeder. Roeder advanced to third on an error and scored on a single by Thompson. Lawson singled and advanced on a wild pitch. Pitts then singled to score Thompson, and Lawson scored on the throw.
