Highlanders win two in Battle on the Bosque
On day two of the Battle on the Bosque, the No. 4 McLennan Highlanders picked up a pair of victories
McLennan battle the cold and the Chipola Indians for a 9-4 victory in the early morning game. Addy Canfield picked up the win in the circle in relief of starter Allyson Schauer.
The Highlanders took the 1-0 lead in the second inning as Ellie Brown was hit by the pitch and came around to score on wild pitches.
Chipola went on top 4-1 with four runs in the fourth. Lilly Morris singled and Amarii Spires walked. Taylor Jefferson followed with a single to score Morris. Jadyn Riano singled to score Spires and Jefferson, and Kamryn Eaton doubled to Riano.
McLennan added two runs in the bottom of the fourth. Brown and Traci Lowry both singled, and Brown scored on a ground out by Lillian Jones. Jayden Sadler then triple to score Lowry.
The Highlanders took the lead with three runs in the sixth. Jordan Tosch led off with a double and scored on a single by Brown. Lowry and Kaelani Rogers both walked. Jones replaced Rogers as the runner on first. Brooke Fechner then singled to score Lowry and Brown.
McLennan scored three in the sixth to round out the scoring. Tosch walked and Karaline Smitherman singled. Delanie Roeder replaced Smitherman on first, and Lily King singled to score Tosch. Brown then doubled to score Roeder and King.
In the afternoon game, the Highlanders defeated San Jacinto 6-2 with Olivia Garrett going the distance in the circle for the win.
The Highlanders scored four runs in the bottom of the first inning. Tosch walked and Macie Jansky singled. King also singled, loading the bases. Tayen Allen followed with a single to score Tosch and Jansky, and Smitherman singled to score King and Allen.
Both San Jacinto runs came in the top of the sixth as Kenadie Guthrie singled and scored on Ary Garcia Santana's home run.
McLennan ended the scoring with two runs in the bottom of the inning. Allen doubled, advanced to third on a fly out by Smitherman and scored on a sacrifice fly by Rogers. Brown then doubled and scored on a double by Sadler.
