Highlanders top Indian Hills & Tyler
McLennan Softball picked up two wins on opening day of the Highlander Games at Bosque River Ballpark.
The Highlanders defeated the Indian Hills Warriors 7-3 in the morning with Skylar Scott getting the win in the circle in relief of starter Allyson Schauer.
McLennan scored two int the first inning. Ryle Marquart walked and scored on a triple by Macie Jansky. Jansky then scored on sacrifice fly by Lily King.
Indian Hills got on the board with a run in the top of the third as Gabby Lane singled, advanced on a wild pitch and scored on an error.
The Highlanders plated five runs in the third. Jayden Sadler singled and advanced on a sac bunt by Brooke Fechner. Marquart walked, and Jansky doubled to score Sadler and Marquart. Tayen Allen reached on an error, scoring Jansky. Allen then stole second and scored on an error.
The final two Warrior runs came in the top of the seventh. Madisyn Buysse and Kate Hickenbottom both singled . Cassandra Benberg doubled to score Buysse. Lane then singled to score Benberg.
In the afternoon, McLennan defeated the Tyler Apaches 10-5 with Natalie Klenda picking up the win.
Tyler struck first with a run in the top of the second. Ileana Hernandez drew a lead-off walk and was replaced by Taylor Milliken as a pinch runner. Chloe Payne was hit by the pitch, and both runners advanced on a sac bunt by Lilli St. Germain. Milliken then scored on a sac fly by Mallory Kniffen.
The Highlanders tied the game with a run in the bottom of the inning. Chayne Allen was hit by the pitch, advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt by Tayen Allen and scored on a sacrifice fly by Sadler.
McLennan took the lead with three runs in the third. King singled and Traci Lowry doubled. Fechner followed with a double to score both runners, and then scored on a single by Jordan Tosch.
The Apaches scored three in the top of the fourth to tie the game. Bethany Fan singled and scored on a Payne home run. St. Germain was hit by the pitch and Laci Swift walked. Brooklyn Foster also walked, loading the bases, and Lindsey Mcknight walked to score St. Germain.
Sadler's homer to lead off the bottom of the fourth put the Highlanders back on top.
Three more McLennan runs scored in the fifth. Chayne Allen and Tayen Allen both singled, and Sadler reached on an error. King followed with a sac fly, scoring Chayne. Delanie Roeder replaced Sadler as the runner at first. Roeder stole second, and Lowry tripled to score Tayen Allen and Roeder.
The final two Highlander runs came in the bottom of the sixth. Tosch tripled and scored on a single by Jansky. Jansky then came around to score on an error.
