Softball splits on final day of Highlander Games
McLennan Softball won one and lost one on the final day of the Highlander Games at Bosque River Ballpark.
It took an extra inning for the Highlanders to defeat the Southeastern Blackhawks 3-2 in the morning. Olivia Garrett went the full eight innings in the circle, striking out 12 to get the win.
McLennan scored one in the first. Chayne Allen led off with a triple and Traci Lowry walked. Lily King then singled to score Allen.
Both Blackhawk runs scored in the fourth. Makenzie Sweeney single and scored on a triple by Lyndsey Kelley. Anna Woods then grounded out to score Kelley.
The Highlanders scored the winning run in the bottom of the eighth. Following International Tie Breaker rules, Allen was placed at second. Jayden Sadler singled, and Allen scored on sac fly by King.
In the nightcap, McLennan fell to Indian Hills 5-1. Natalie Klenda took the loss in the circle.
The Warriors scored three runs in the first. Bailey Tegeler walked and Mary-Paige Withers singled. Makenzie Buysse followed with a double, scoring Tegeler. Chandler Houselog reached on an error, scoring Withers. Sophie Revallo was hit by the pitch, and Buysse scored on a fielder's choice by Kaitlyn Taylor.
The Highlanders scored one in the bottom of the first. King walked and advanced to third on a ground out by Sadler. Lillian Jones then singled to score King.
Indian Hills added a run in the fifth. Buysse and Houselog both walked. Mary Monosmith replaced Houselog at first. Both runners advanced on a ground out by Mackenzie Wesson. Buysse scored on a line out by Revallo.
The final Warrior run scored in the seventh. Houselog singled and advanced to second on a ground out by Revallo. Taylor then singled to score Houselog.
