Highlanders close out Alabama trip
The McLennan Highlanders closed out the final day in Alabama with a win over Georgia Highland and loss to Northeast Alabama.
McLennan opened the day with a 10-2 run-rule win over the Georgia Highland Chargers. Skylar Scott got the win in the circle.
Both Charger runs scored in the top of the first. Emma Darrow was hit by the pitch and advanced on a sac bunt by Anslee Logan. Ahmani Green singled to score Darrow. Green then stole second and scored on a ground out by Mary Catherine Kimball.
The Highlanders tie the game with two runs in the bottom of the inning. Chayne Allen and Lily King were both hit by the pitch, and Traci Lowry singled to load the bases. Chayne Allen scored on a sac fly by Brooke Fechner, and King scored on a ground out by Tayen Allen.
McLennan took the lead with five runs in the third. King reached on an error and scored on Lowry's home run. Tayen Allen followed with a solo home run. Ellie Brown walked, stole second and scored on a double by Delanie Roeder. Roeder advanced on a wild pitch and Lillian Jones walked. Jones then stole second and Roeder scored.
Another Highlander run scored in the fourth. King singled, stole second and advanced to third on a wild pitch before scoring on a ground out by Fechner.
Two runs in the bottom of the fifth sealed the run rule. Roeder reached on an error and Kaelani Rogers doubled. Jones replaced Rogers at second. Chayne Allen then singled to score Roeder, and Lowry singled to score Jones.
McLennan fell to Northeast Alabama 3-2 in the final game of the day with Olivia Garrett taking the loss in the circle.
The Mustangs got on the board with Marti McCluskey's solo home run in the first.
Another Northeast Alabama run sored in the fourth. Francesca Lumpp double and Austin McNeece singled. Olivia Acuff then singled to score Lumpp.
The final Mustang run scored in the fifth. Breanna Wilson singled and Chloe Hatch reached on an error. Wilson then advanced to third on a wild pitch and scored on a double steal.
Pinch hitter Macie Jansky led off the top of the sixth for the Highlanders with a solo home run.
McLennan rounded out the scoring with a run in the seventh. Lowry singled, Tosch walked and Tayen Allen singled to load the bases. Lowry then scored on a fielder's choice by Jayden Sadler.
