Highlanders sweep Badgers
An avalanche of runs led the No. 9 McLennan Highlanders to a doubleheader sweep of the Snow Badgers this afternoon at Bosque River Ballpark.
McLennan got the 9-1 run rule in the opener with Olivia Garrett going the distance in the circle.
Snow scored its only run in the top of the first. Gigi Hall led off with a single, and Brooke Fisher walked. Mane Laolagi-Aloy then doubled to score Hall.
The Highlanders took the lead with two runs in the bottom of the inning. Rylie Marquart singled and stole second. Lily King followed with the two-run homer.
McLennan added a run in the second as Macie Jansky doubled, advanced on a sac bunt by Jordan Tosch and scored on a ground out by Tayen Allen.
Three more Highlander runs scored in the third. Chayne Allen reached on an error, stole second and advanced to third on a sac bunt by Marquart. Traci Lowry triple to score Chayne Allen, and King singled and stole second. Brooke Fechner then singled to score Lowry and King.
McLennan got the walk-off run rule with three runs in the bottom of the fifth. Lowry, King and Kaelani Rogers all walked, loading the bases. Fechner came back in to run for Rogers. Jansky and Karaline Smitherman both walked, scoring Lowry and King, and Tayen Allen singled to score Fechner.
In the nightcap, Allyson Schauer went six innings in the circle to pick up the 9-1 win for McLennan.
The Highlanders scored three in the first. Chayne Allen walked, stole second and scored on a single by Marquart. Marquart advanced to second on the throw and ,moved to third on a wild pitch. Marquart stole home when King stole second. Fechner singled, and King scored on the double steal.
Two more McLennan runs scored in the third. King singled, stole second and scored on a triple by Fechner. Smitherman walked and stole second, and Delanie Roeder then singled to score Fechner.
McLennan tacked on two more in the fourth. Rogers singled and was replaced by Tosch at first. Marquart reached on an error, and Lowry singled to load the bases. Tosch scored on a fielder's choice by King that put Lowry out at second. Fechner then singled to score Marquart.
Snow scored one in the top of the fifth. Chelly Deleon and Avery Thorkelson booth singled. Deleon then scored on a single by Hall.
Tayen Allen homered in the bottom of the fifth to make it an 8-1 Highlander lead.
McLennan sealed the run rule with a run in the bottom of the fifth. King singled and stole second. Smitherman then doubled to score King and end the game.
