Highlanders complete series sweep of Ranger & postpone TVCC doublehader
McLennan Softball picked up its first conference-series sweep of the season with a pair of wins this afternoon over the Ranger Lady Rangers at Bosque River Ballpark.
The Highlanders opened the day with an 8-0 run-rule victory with Allyson Schauer getting the win in the circle.
McLennan scored seven runs in the bottom of the third. Delanie Roeder reached on an error, and Karaline Smitherman and Chayne Allen both singled to load the bases. Back-to-back singles by Rylie Marquart and Traci Lowry scored Roeder and Smitherman. Chayne Allen was out at the plate on a fielder's choice by Lily King, and Marquart scored on a sac fly by Tayen Allen. Kaelani Rogers followed with a three-run homer. Brooke Fechner then doubled and scored on a single by Roeder.
The final Highlander run came in the fourth. Chayne Allen led off with a single, stole second and advanced to third on a ground out by Marquart. Lowry followed with the sac fly to score Allen.
In the series finale, McLennan defeated Ranger 7-1 with Natalie Klenda going the distance in the circle for the win.
The Highlanders scored all seven runs in the second inning. Tayen Allen singled and scored on a double by Ellie Brown. Fechner doubled and Roeder singled, scoring Brown and Fechner. Marquart singled, and Chayne Allen followed with a triple to score Roeder and Marquart. Lillian Jones walked, and Allen scored on the double steal. Jones advanced to third on a ground out by Rogers and scored on a ground out by Jayden Sadler.
Rangers only run came in the top of the seventh. Daniela Ramirez singled but was out on a fielder's choice by Jiselle Ramos. Alexia Barnett singled, and Ramos scored on a sac fly by Alexis Cowan.
McLennan was scheduled for a doubleheader at Trinity Valley on Sunday, but due to impending weather, the doubleheader has been postponed until March 29.a
