No. 5 Highlanders sweep No. 21 Weatherford
In a Top-20 showdown, the No. 5 McLennan Highlanders picked up a pair of victories over the No. 21 Weatherford Coyotes in conference action.
Game one was an 11-1 run-rule victory for the Highlanders with Olivia Garrett picking up the win in the circle.
McLennan scored two in the top of the first. Chayne Allen singled, Lily King walked and Tayen Allen was hit by the pitch, loading the bases. Brooke Fechner then singled to score Chayne Allen and King.
The Highlanders added six runs in the second. Rylie Marquart singled and stole second. Karaline Smitherman was hit by the pitch, and Kaelani Rogers followed with a three-run homer. King walked and Tayen Allen singled. A fielder's choice by Fechner brought King in to score. Delanie Roeder then tripled to score Tayen Allen and Fechner.
Another McLennan run scored in the fourth. Tayen Allen single and advanced on a ground out by Fechner. Allen then advanced on a fly out by Roeder and scored on an error. Marquart reached on an error and Smitherman singled. Chayne Allen then singled to score Marquart.
Weatherford's only run came in the bottom of the fourth. Karlie Landrum doubled and Rian Coon was hit by the pitch. Aofia Noa then singled to score Landrum.
The Highlanders rounded out the scoring with a run in the top of the fifth. Lowry walked and King singled. A fielder's choice by Tayen Allen put Lowry out at second. Lowry then scored on a sac fly by Fechner.
Game two was a defensive battle with McLennan getting a 3-2 victory in 10 innings. Natalie Klenda went the distance in the circle to get the win.
McLennan began the scoring with two runs in the second inning. Tayen Allen and Lillian Jones both singled. Smitherman then doubled to score both runners.
The Coyotes tied the game with two runs in the bottom of the fourth. Joni Jackson walked and was replaced by a pinch runner. Landrum doubled, and Coon followed with a double to score both runners.
The Highlanders took the lead with one run in the top of the 10th inning. Lowry and King both singled. Tayen Allen then doubled to score Lowry.
