Highlanders & Vikings split doubleheader
The No. 8 McLennan Highlanders and No. 9 Grayson Vikings split today's conference doubleheader at Bosque River Ballpark.
McLennan took the opener 5-0 with Olivia Garrett getting the shutout win in the circle.
McLennan put three on the board in the bottom of the first inning. Traci Lowry, Kaelani Rogers and Chayne Allen all singled. Rylie Marquart followed with a double to score all three runners.
The Highlanders added a run in the third. Chayne Allen singled and Marquart walked, both advancing on a sac bunt by Delanie Roeder. Allen then came in to score on a sac fly by Brooke Fechner.
Another McLennan run scored in the fourth as Lowry walked and scored on a double by Rogers.
The Vikings took the nightcap 13-6.
Grayson scored five in the first inning. Aniyah Pequeno and Mia Krueger both singled, and Jaclyn Draeger was hit by the pitch to load the bases. Mail Larsen walked, scoring Pequeno, and Addisyn Cox was hit by the pitch to score Krueger. Carolyn Koval then doubled to score all three runners.
McLennan got on the board with two runs in the second. Fechner, Macie Jansky and Lillian Jones all singled. Tayen Allen then singled to score Fechner, and Jansky scored on a fielder's choice by Lowry.
The Vikings added three more runs in the third. Draeger and Larsen both singled and advanced on a sac bunt by Cox. Koval then doubled to score Draeger and Larsen, and Paqueno singled to score Koval.
The Highlanders scored three more runs in the fourth. Roeder reached on an error, and Jones singled. Lowry singled to score Roeder. Both runners advanced on a ground out by Rogers, and Chayne Allen singled to score Jones and Lowry.
Grayson scored five more runs in the top of the seventh. Pequeno singled and Willa Ford walked. Brynlie Dunkin then doubled to score both runners, and Draeger reached on an error to score Dunkin. Larsen walked, and both runners advanced on a wild pitch. Draeger scored on a wild pitch. Koval walked and was replaced by pinch runner Ava Lay. Paisley Needham also walked, loading the bases, and Pequeno walked to score Larsen.
McLennan rounded out the scoring with a run in the bottom of the seventh. Rogers led off with a double, and Fechner singled. Jansky then single to score Rogers.
