Highlanders fall to Odessa

The McLennan Highlanders fell to the Odessa Wranglers 8-2 in the NJCAA Southwest District A Championship in Odessa. Olivia Garrett took the loss in the circle.
Odessa scored three in the first inning. Angelique Iredale was hit by the pitch and scored on a double by Riley Cassidy. Meret Willeke walked and Alyssa Smith was hit by the pitch. Jaycie Pacheco then singled to score Cassidy and Willeke.
Four Wrangler runs scored in the third. Cassidy doubled and was replaced by pin runner Phoenix Preciado. Willeke followed with a two-run homer. Smith singled and Pacheco followed with another two-run homer.
Both McLennan runs came in the top of the fourth. Traci Lowry led off with a double and scored on a double by Kaelani Rogers. Rogers then advanced on a ground out by Rylie Marquart and scored on a wild pitch.
Odessa rounded out the scoring with Cassidy's solo home run to lead off the bottom of the fifth.
