The McLennan Highlassies dropped a nail-biter on the road Monday evening, falling to Blinn 60-55.
The Highlassies came out hitting on all cylinders, opening on a 10-0 run and holding Blinn scoreless for the first five minutes of the game. The Lady Buccaneers rallied late in the first quarter. McLennan led 14-10 with 2:33 remaining in the first. Blinn closed the quarter on an 8-0 run to hold a four-point lead, 18-14. The Lady Buccaneers extended the lead to 11, 28-17, with 1:18 remaining in the half. The Highlassies ended the half on 7-0 run to trim the Blinn lead to four at the break, 28-24.
McLennan tied the game at 33 with 6:44 remaining in the third quarter. The teams traded the lead for the remainder of the period with Blinn leading 43-42 going into the final quarter. The Highlassies built a three-point lead, 48-45, with 5:48 to play in the game. The Lady Buccaneers went on a 6-0 run to take the 51-48 lead with 3:25 to go. McLennan used a 4-0 run to regain the lead and led 55-54 with 1:08 to play. Blinn ended the game on a 6-0 run to seal the win.
Ann-Marie Dunlap led the Highlassies with 12 points. Mirackle Sallie and Nadia Hayes added 11 and 10, respectively.
