Mitchell named NJCAA Honorable Mention All-American

McLennan Community College women's basketball star Velma Mitchell was named an NJCAA Honorable Mention All-American today. Mitchell, a freshman from Rockdale, averaged 17.0 points per game to lead the Highlassies and was the best in the conference. She earned the North Texas Junior College Athletics Conference (NTJCAC) Player of the Year and Newcomer of the Year awards, and was a first-team all-conference and an all-region selection. This marks the second All-American honor for Mitchell. In March, she was named a 2017 Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) Junior/Community College Coaches' All-American.
