The McLennan Highlassies traveled to Brenham Monday evening and handed the Blinn Buccaneers a 67-56 loss in the season opener at the Kruse Center.
It was a close game through the first quarter. McLennan built a seven-point lead but Blinn cut it to two going into the second period, 17-15. The Buccaneers took the lead in the second quarter and held it into the third. The teams traded the lead in the third with the Highlassies taking the 45-41 advantage into the final period. McLennan outscored Blinn 22-15 in the final period to seal the victory.
KeeKee Nowlin led the Highlassies with 11 points and Anastacia Mickens added 10.
With the win, McLennan improves to 3-0 on the season. The Highlassies will compete in the Temple College Classic this weekend, facing San Antonio College Friday at 7 p.m. and Coastal Bend Saturday at noon.
