McLennan annihilates Angelina
McLennan women's basketball annihilated the Angelina Roadrunners 71-42 in this afternoon's season opener at The Highlands.
Angelina held the early lead at 5-4 with 7:52 to go in the first quarter. After both teams went scoreless for almost three minutes, a pair of free throws by Charravia Smith ignited a 12-0 McLennan run over the next putting the squad up 16-5. The Roadrunners managed one 3-pointer late in the quarter but it would be McLennan with the 20-8 lead heading into the second.
Angelina added a bucket early in the second before McLennan put together a 13-0 run highlighted by a long 3-pointer by Tajenae Gooden to go up by 23, 33-10. The Roadrunners managed a 7-0 run to trim the lead to 16, 33-16, before McLennan ended the frame on a 7-0 run of its own to lead 40-17 at the half.
McLennan continued to roll in the third. Already leading 50-26, a three-point play by Charnelle Hoof followed the by a 3-ponter in from the corner by Gooden gave the squad a 30-point lead at 56-26, and it would be 60-31 McLennan at the end of the third.
Both squads slowed their scoring in the fourth as McLennan cruised to the victory
Tajenae Gooden led McLennan with 16 points and Lanaijha Johnson added 14. Charravia Smith and Charnelle Hoof added 11 and 10, respectively.
