McLennan women cage Bengals
The McLennan women's basketball squad caged the LSU-Eunice Bengals 88-51 tonight to close out the road trip in Louisiana.
The game would be close throughout the first quarter. Izabella Henry hit a 3-pointer from the wing for LSU-Eunice less than 20 seconds into the contest. McLennan responded with a 7-0 run to take the lead . The Bengals tied the game at seven but it would be the McLennan show from that point forward. LSU-Eunice kept it close but it would be McLennan with the four-point lead heading into the second quarter, 21-17.
McLennan began to create some distance in the second period. The squad led by five, 26-21, with 8:15 to go before the half. Charnelle Hoof put together a 5-0 run on her own over the next 30 seconds to give her team its first double-digit lead at 31-21. LSU-Eunice cut the lead to seven at 39-32 but McLennan ended the quarter on a 7-0 run to lead by 13 at the break, 45-32.
McLennan hit the floor firing on all cylinders in the third quarter, breaking the game wide open. The squad opened on a 17-5 run to almost double the lea at 62-47. The team continued to roll and led 72-46 going into the fourth. The momentum carried into the final period, and LSU-Eunice never recovered.
With the win, McLennan moves to 6-1 on the season and will host Nelson University at 4 p.m. Tuesday at The Highlands.
